Brooklyn Community Housing and Services (BCHS) is committed to providing clean and safe housing to formerly homeless men, women, and children in Brooklyn. We spent time with individuals who are receiving assistance from BCHS, and produced a short video about their journeys and the ways in which BCHS has positively impacted their lives. Check out the video and the work BCHS is doing here.
And see below for a few beautiful stills we captured while filming.
“If you don’t have a place where you can lay your head… you can’t be productive in society. And that’s what I told them when I came to the interview. I was like I need this. I need this so I can be productive. They provided me that, and also they saw things in me that I didn’t see in myself.”
“I open my door, close my door. My room is nice and warm. The whole world is shut out… Whatever’s out there is out there. I’m coming home to relax.”
“I want her to have a home you know…so I could show her that mommy can do it. Mommy did it.”
“…constantly living from house to house you know it’s not a good feeling. But once you have your own again, it’s like everything just like lights up.”
“You need people in your life and you need family…BCHS saved my life. They gave me a place when I needed one the most.”
“I found myself without a path and without without a way. It was really confusing to me …I didn’t wanna die. But I just didn’t know how to live… BCHS gave me a way out.”
“Where I came from… everything was just destruction. When I went to BCHS…they broadened my horizons. They told me there’s a lot out there for you…and I just ran with it.”
