This #ThrowbackThursday, we’re throwing back to a project about an iconic place that’s been part of NYC since 1857…
Central Park is the most visited urban park in the United States, and also one of the most filmed locations in the world. Adding to both of those statistics now is the team at Fly on the Wall!
Last Spring we had the opportunity to attend the renowned Frederick Law Olmsted Awards Luncheon (better known as “The Hat Luncheon,”) which raises millions each year to support Central Park. We interviewed guests and mingled with high society, joining folks like Michael Bloomberg and Martha Stewart, to hear their stories and find out why they so strongly support Central Park.
We then gathered this footage and used it for two additional projects:
The Awards Luncheon slideshow, which featured a collection of new and archival images that played during the event, and, for the film we created that tells the story of The Central Park Women’s Committee.
Founded in 1983 “the Women’s Committee has been instrumental in increasing awareness and raising funds for many Park projects including the reconstruction of the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center, the renovation of Safari Playground, and recreation of the urns at Bow Bridge. The Women’s Committee raises 15 percent of Central Park Conservancy’s $67 million annual, Park-wide budget.”
For the Women’s Committee project, we worked with the CPC to create a film featuring this group of women, who may have a limited notoriety with the average New Yorker but, whose work actually makes a huge impact on New Yorkers’ daily lives.
We set out to tell their story in celebration of their 35th anniversary, and, to draw attention to their next worthwhile endeavor: the restoration of the Conservancy garden.
We were honored to share the love that the Women’s Committee members have for Central Park (and our own love for this park as well!) We think that our admiration and passion for this NYC icon shine through in our film about the Women’s Committee, and, we’re happy to share that piece with you today.
